Kinyerere School, Uganda

15 kilometers north of the Uganda town of Masaka is the Kinyerere Church of Uganda Primary School. This school serves a poor rural community and many of the young students walk long distances to and from their villages to attend class each day. The school building itself is of rudimentary construction and our Champions got to work with shovels, cement mixers and trowels, laying a new classroom floor and plastering walls. When they weren't hard at work, they were teaching a fun-loving crowd of kids how to play cricket and visiting the local game park.

Although the incentive lasted only a few days, the participants were truly moved by the experience. They also noted that many of the children had to make do with a single bowl of food per day. So when a second team of Champions returned to the school the following March, they built a poultry house and filled it with 100 chicks. This provided the children with a valuable opportunity to not only learn how to raise and nurture animals but develop a regular source of income (by selling the eggs to local businesses).

We look forward to continuing our relationship with Kinyerere and many of the Champions have made independent donations to the community.
