The needs of our customers and employees are primarily addressed at the operating company level and details can be found on each of our country websites. However, in addition to managing the business day-to-day, the central team has a special responsibility to ensure the needs of all stakeholders are taken into consideration.

We work closely with our private equity owners - primarily Macquarie Capital Funds - whose needs are well understood by CEO Cornel Riklin, himself a former partner of the Texas Pacific Group (TPG). Our results demonstrate that we are committed to profitable growth, well above the average for our sector. Our continued success has enabled us to make a series of major acquisitions, most notably Gouden Gids in Holland and Ditel in Poland.

Our drive for results is matched for a concern with the environment. Each of our operating companies use recycled paper and operate print collection and further recycling techniques that ensure minimum environmental impact. We also have environmentally- friendly, energy-efficient offices, such as the new state-of-the-art building in Copenhagen. However, we are well aware that we can always improve and during Easter 2008 a group of high potential managers from our businesses travelled to Antarctica with celebrated polar explorer and environmentalist, Professor Robert Swan OBE, to learn about the impact of climate change and to discuss what more can be done. Participants have taken the lessons from this incredible experience and returned to lead environmental action groups in their respective companies.

Sometimes it’s important to tackle the needs of our least influential stakeholders and this is why a group of high-flying employees had the opportunity to do community work at Kinyerere school, a rural facility for some of Uganda’s most impoverished children. Apart from lending material support and labour to school building projects, our team had time to teach the kids the joys of cricket!
