Mobile Sees 40% March Over Feb Usage Growth

European Directories has announced today that its mobile initiatives in 2009 have grown usage in that channel by 521% in the last six months.  This equates to a 32% compounded monthly growth rate in that period, however, the group’s mobile usage is actually accelerating, having grown by over 40% in the month of March alone.  Mobile usage now constitutes 5% of the European Directories total online usage, and is expected to continue to grow in 2010, with the potential to achieve 15% of the group’s Internet usage by the end of the calendar year.

“I’ve managed  mobile services and applications for several Yellow Pages over the last seven years, and think the ones we’ve delivered for European Directories are the best we have ever built,” says Dr. Carey Bunks, European Directories’ Group Vice President of Mobile.

The European Directories mobile portfolio consists of an xHTML service adapted for use with all Internet connected handsets.  The service is optimized for performance and usability for smart phones as well as low-end devices, and is delivering approximately 75% of the portfolio’s mobile usage.  The remainder is being delivered by the group’s core iPhone application.   Bunks says that additional applications are currently under development for the Android and Java operating systems, and are expected to add significant additional usage.
