Fonecta Ltd and Kymen Puhelin Oy, which is part of Finnet Group, completed a business transaction whereby Fonecta acquired the printed directory operations from Kymen Puhelin. The target of the acquisition is Kymen Puhelin's share of Kymi regional telephone directory and the local phone directory published by Kymen Puhelin, distributed in Kotka and Hamina.
“Printed directory operations in Finland have become concentrated in Fonecta in a fairly short period of time. While in previous years we acquired the printed directory operations of seven telecom operators, this year alone we have acquired those of ten regional telephone operators. Success in the printed directory business requires core competences in content production and media sales,” says Heikki Jämsänen, CEO of Fonecta Ltd.
The sale requires no action by the subscribers. Fonecta will publish the 2006 Kymi regional phone directory in close co-operation with Kymen Puhelin. The directory will be delivered by mail to every household with the 05 telephone area code. The print will be approximately 215,000. Additions and corrections to contact information for next year's directory can be made until the end of September.
The telephone directory has a long tradition in Kotka. The first was published as early as in 1908. The first phone directory for Southern Kymenlaakso was published in 1933.

Kymen Puhelin Oy has contributed to a feasible production volume by being involved in fruitful co-operation with Fonecta for years. This was the right time to sell our printed directory operations to a large, specialized service provider. Kymen Puhelin will in turn focus on its own core business, providing our customers with the best telecommunication services available. Our customers will continue to receive the directory as usual, only from now on it will be produced by Fonecta,” says Pekka Pylväs, Managing Director of Kymen Puhelin Oy.
The Kymi regional telephone directory is part of the series of 16 regional telephone directories published annually by Fonecta and Finnet Group. In each region, the telephone directory is the most used and read printed directory. All directory information provided in the Kymi telephone directory will also be available from nation- wide operator-assisted directory services, including directory numbers 118 and 02 02 02. Nearly 50 million calls will be made this year to domestic operator-assisted directory services, of which the share of Fonecta and Finnet Group is approximately 75%.
