Fonecta and Mikkelin Puhelin (MPY) have completed a business transaction on the
118 directory service of Mikkelin Puhelin. From today, the 118 calls from Mikkelin
Puhelin’s subscription customers will be directed to Fonecta’s directory services
centres in Kouvola, Pori and Turku. The sale requires no action by the
subscribers.
“The transaction extends our lead as the clear market leader in directory services.
Last year, nearly 50 million calls were made to domestic operator-assisted
directory services, of which Fonecta’s share was more than half. In proportion to
the population, Finns are among the most eager users of domestic operatorassisted
directory services,” says Heikki Jämsänen, CEO of Fonecta Ltd.
Fonecta also provides the 118 directory services, for example, to landline and
mobile phone subscribers of such operators as Sonera and Saunalahti.
The 118 directory service as run by MPY would have required considerable new
investments in the future. At the same time, the number of directory service calls
from landline phones has decreased significantly. According to Departmental
Manager Markku Liukkonen, these considerations led to MPY giving up its 118
business. At the same time, it was agreed that Fonecta will provide 118 directory
services to MPY’s landline subscribers.
Fonecta was perceived as the natural partner in 118 directory services because
there is already collaboration between the two companies in the publication of
Mikkeli’s regional printed directory.
The starting point for both companies was naturally to ensure that the highquality
118 directory services will be available for MPY’s fixed-line subscribers
also in the future.
All the contact information in the 2006 Mikkeli’s regional directory published in
December can also be found in Fonecta and Finnet Group’s domestic operatorassisted
directory services. The regional phone book for the Mikkeli area will be
published as a collaboration of Fonecta, Mikkelin Puhelin and Savonlinnan Puhelin.
